button jewels&cross country escapades

2:10am Brooklyn time. 2 beers, 2 shots whiskey and 1 pretty amazing piece of pizza later...

so far so good!

my dear friend Anne (wondrous travel buddy) kindly reminded me that I promised myself I'd blog at some point today...which is kind of silly since I'm pretty sure I have about 1.5 people reading at the moment (hee hee). but the point is documentation, right?

this week has pretty much been a TOTAL blur. getting ready for exciting cross country travels, in the midst of moving (oy vey), AND trying to make some product (whatwhat) for an art show in Santa Rosa at Kaleidoscope which is happening AS I TYPE! Eee..............

the other day I got a little crazy making some jewelry out of antique/vintage buttons and such AND got 4 dresses together in time for the show too......yay! some pics of the fun button jewels....

also trying to finish lovely little Charmaine's dress for her show on the 23rd (which I BARELY finished in time for me to drive to San Jose at 2am yesterday.....in time to leave for the airport at 7am this morning...rawrrr. sleepy meee). realized when I got to NY that I'm waysuperawesome and left MY dress that I'm wearing to the show at my house in Santa Rosa. Good thing there are really amazing DADS in this world (thanks papa) who overnight packages to SF when someone is dumb and forgets to pack very important things.

aaanyway...come to the show!

lovelovelovelovelove from Brooklyn and beyond. <3

oh ps. I DID technically start the 30x30 challenge...except this week I basically lived in sweat pants and band tees and the occasional pair of socks and undies...so I think we're officially starting things tomorrow for reals. Nightnight!

30x30

it's making me really nervous (I am a terrible clothing hoarder...and thrifting always enables me to buy moremoremore. my closet is a constant state of explosion) but I'm about to attempt the Kendi Everyday: 30 for 30 challenge. http://kendieveryday.blogspot.com/p/30-for-30-remixes.html

so while I'm having all my epic adventures (leaving for New York Citayy friday morning, back in SF for Vessel on the 23rd, then headed down to LA for a few weeks on the 25th for some theater fun...) I'll also be remixing my wardrobe. here's to being resourceful and teaching myself to "shop" from my own closet!

Oh, and let's say oh hell no to boring and conventional fashion choices this month....BOLD BOLD BOLD BOLD

I'll be documenting. <3

sunday in the city is fitting

what the heck happened to yesterday? it completely escaped me. happy happy valentine's day!

took a drive over to san fran on sunday morning to say hello to my good friend, and wonderfully talented artist, *Charmaine Olivia*. she (along with fellow artist/musician and dearest friend, *Morgan*) is one of my most inspiring muses when it comes to making dresses. I draw sooo many ideas from their personal styles, from Charmaine's mindblowing artwork, and Whiteflower's lovely/enchanting sounds. and the story gets even more precious! we all went to high school together and are long time friends. (aww/lovefest).

Charmaine has a solo show at Vessel, SF next wednesday (eeee!! <3) and I'm honored to be making a custom dress for her. I don't want to give too much away...come to the show to see the finished dress and some totally gorgeous art! yes?

going for a nautical/aquatic look. and working with epaulettes (and of course, chain. my favorite). funnn!

this epaulette is made entirely from found or thrifted/recycled/repurposed objects. felt/studs from an old shirt, $2 thrifted black and silver chains (necklaces, in another life), rhinestones leftover from a previous project...and bunches of old/vintage buttons. some found recently, some I've been given by my aunt or grandmother...some I've been hanging onto for years. oh! and just a few jewels of course

wanting to add a couple more delicate silver chains.....

pretty pretty pretty <3

clearly our first fitting was a success. I'm excited to finish this one!!

......sunday was also Picture Machine Tattoo's $25 valentine's tattoo special...and who can resist a treat like that?? (well, clearly we can't......)

big thank you to Picture Machine's *Derick Montez*! if anybody in the bay is aching for ink, go see this guy! excellent artist, and definitely a homie. http://sftattoo.com/artists/derick-montez/

just a teensy little peek....

at what I've been working on so far. I've been wicked inspired this week! it feels great to be getting all the ol' creative gears turning again, just using my hands, and making some (hopefully) really beautiful and unique pieces. if anything, they're all made with a *lotta love*

would love to post all the pics I have, but this girl is getting so so sleepy. here are a few pretties, and more to come tomorrow!

my very first attempt at crafting deconstructed/recycled couture. still one of my faves!

cupcake princess fairy dress.

the second cupcake fairy.

punk-rock grecian goddess?

Audrey Hepburn/button queen.
